Lando Norris Leads Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session

The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the dying seconds of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

The British racer, who seized the points lead from his teammate by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City a fortnight back, outpaced the Australian by 0.023 seconds.

Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.

The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, sitting with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, ended up in 17th position as his Red Bull team followed a alternative strategy.

His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he rotated at the fourth corner soon after starting.

Tsunoda slid over the exit kerbs before sliding over the gravel trap, and was fortunate to escape with just a light touch of the barrier.

The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the very end of the session, rotating twice through the high-speed Mergulho turn before the final corner on to the main straight.

The veteran ended the session in 19th, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.

Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car third fastest, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's pace.

Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with the Sauber of Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Sainz.
