Wythenshawe Vets Over-35s are based in southern the city and play in the Cheshire-based Vets Division Top Division.

Ireland started turning out for the side in preseason this season through close mate and current team player Blake Norton, and the former Irish player then asked additional former professionals, who all compete in a weekly small-sided match, to participate.

So great is the squad depth at Wythenshawe, Niasse made his first game at full-back.

"That's a bit different but then, I love sprinting and just move forward - I'm not staying back that much," he said.

"I tell my defender 'I'm not hanging back' and that I'm just going to keep attacking.

"The movement is what I'm after. It's enjoyable."

Along with Cisse's 6 goals on debut, Ireland has scored 8 in 3 games for the side, while Boyd hit five on his first match and Joleon Lescott, a centre-half by trade, notched a hat-trick in one game as a striker.

The team are top of the Premier Tier with three victories from 3 and a GD of +19.

Paul Barrow, thirty-eight, who plays on the flank for Collegiate OB, faced ex- Wigan defender Figueroa on the weekend - and had to explain his young boy who Emile Heskey was.

He has played at two World Cups for his country, in as well as playing in more than 200 top-flight games.

"The news was spreading like wildfire they had all these former top-flight players," said Barrow.

"I think I was a little starstruck facing Figueroa to be honest.

"Also Emile [Heskey] got on and he's got 60-odd England appearances.

"Our side competed well for a good twenty mins but then we had a player dismissed and it was tough.

"Our group literally have not ceased talking about it - I was phoning my mum and brother on the journey home.

"They were all friendly, shaking our hands after the match - it was like facing a group of normal guys.

"Now we are eager for the second match."
